Aloe Vera deserves to be in your skincare regimen

Ahhhh…Aloe Vera!  You are a stand-out botanical amongst botanicals!  Full of vitamins, minerals, and anti-inflammatory compounds — we can’t say enough good things.  If you don’t have cool, soothing aloe in your icebox right now, you should run (not walk) to your nearest apothecary to stock up!  For sure, it’s one of our favorite natural beauty balms here at Prickly Pear!

10 reasons we love aloe vera!

  1. It moisturizes dry skin. The Aloe plant contains a type of molecule chain (mucopolysaccharides) that is commonly found in lotions and is very hydrating. It is intensely moisturizing without being heavy, which makes it ideal for curing rough patches.

  2. It’s soothing.  The pulp of the Aloe plant is water-rich and contains antioxidants, enzymes and vitamins A and C; it is naturally a skin-calming gel.

  3. It reduces puffiness.  Aloe contains active compounds which quickly reduce inflammation and is why it is often called, “the miracle plant.”

  4. It’s good for most people with sensitive skin.  In its pure form, Aloe is 100 percent natural, which makes it a great go-to product for many people who have allergies and struggle with chemicals in their skincare products.

  5. It helps combat acne.  Need to spot-treat blemishes?  Aloe will help kill off harmful bacteria while boosting blood flow to the breakout area, both of which speed healing.  Apply a little before bedtime and leave overnight!

  6. It’s a natural exfoliant.  The salicylic acid in Aloe can help get rid of excess dead skin cells, greatly increasing your glow factor!

  7. It treats coldsores.  Aloe is antiviral, which is really good news for those who suffer from cold sores and want faster healing. As a bonus, Aloe is a great lip moisturizer too, so apply liberally!

  8. It provides relief from psoriasis and eczema.  Both these conditions can make your skin itchy, tingly and make it even feel like it’s been burned.  Aloe will immediately sooth and moisturize even the most red, scaly, irritated skin!

  9. It helps fade dark spots and acne scars.  Aloe contains a compound called aloesin, which reduces the overproduction of melanin.  Less melanin means less hyperpigmentation, making your dark spots and acne scars disappear faster!

  10. It slows the signs of aging.  Applying Aloe helps stimulate collagen and elastin fiber production, giving your skin more strength and elasticity.

And if all these amazing uses weren’t enough, Aloe Vera is the only moisturizer we recommend applying the day of your electrolysis session! You can, of course, go back to your regular skincare products the day after…but you should definitely consider adding Aloe to your regular skincare regimen (and while you’re at it, keep it cool in your fridge for a topical refreshment that’s just a little EXTRA).
